Mental Health Treatment Rates During Pregnancy and Post Partum in US Military Service Members

Parents looking at their newborn

US Army and Navy service members went to fewer therapy sessions during pregnancy and while on leave following birth, especially if they had already received mental health treatment before. Birthing parents were more likely to go back to therapy once they started working again. This study shows that becoming a parent can make it harder for people to get help for their mental health, but going back to work may make it easier for them to get the care they need.
